The purpose of this guideline is to develop an evidence based approach to the diagnosis and treatment of major gastrointestinal bleeding and this should be of interest to a wide range of primary and secondary care medical professionals, including gastroenterologists, anaesthetists, surgeons, accident and emergency staff, pharmacists, radiologists, nurses and general practitioners.
