In an ever changing Primary Care system, there are Practice Nurses who feel isolated and frustrated. In 1989, the Scottish Practice Nurse Association was formed in response to this situation. Our primary aim is to support nurses working in General Practice, further Practice Nurse education and strengthen links with other professional bodies.

The committee are currently looking at new initiatives and in particular we are looking ahead to moving forward with a wide range of initiatives including:

The annual conference which takes place in May each year.   Please remember that members are guaranteed a place at the conference as well as a discount on the registration fee.

Working with the Scottish Executive and other Primary Care organisations to represent your views on a wide range of initiatives in the Scottish health service.   If you would like to help us with this work, either in general or on specific areas that interest you, then please let us know.  

We are currently developing our web site to be an extremely effective information resource on all aspects of practice nursing.  

Focussing on developing the role of the Practice Nurse as a continually valued member of the Primary Care Team, across Scotland.   This will include looking at areas such as defining the role the practice nurse plays, providing sample job descriptions, sharing ideas and experiences, responding to the difficulty in recruiting practice nurses - to reflect just a few of the ideas.

Membership costs £25 per year, which can be paid either by cheque or standing order. Please indicate on the application form if you would prefer to pay by standing order and a form will be included with your membership pack, which you should fill out and send to your bank, making your initial payment as soon as possible. Please note that membership of SPNA runs from 1 February each year, irrespective of your joining date. Renewal reminders will be sent out in January.
